July is the Sarcoma Awareness Month. A rare cancer, sarcoma can affect people of any age or gender. It represents 1 percent of all cancers, is difficult to treat and the life expectancy after its diagnosis is short. Considered to be the “forgotten cancer,” sarcoma affects more than 50,000 Americans as well as their friends and family members by their side. The month highlights the extraordinary challenges faced by sarcoma patients and the need for more sarcoma research and better sarcoma therapies needed by these patients.
